Love, Justice, & Generosity

Undivided attention is love, our world is our awareness, and he had no idea what was to come.

On Love:

“Attention is the most basic form of love”

John Tarrant

When we give our undivided attention to another, we are showing them love. Let’s do more of that.

On Justice:

A wise man by the name of Houston Kraft once said, “our world is our awareness.” By keeping our world small, we focus on ourselves, our own life, our own problems. In some seasons of life, that’s all we have the capacity for. Although, the world is a big and beautiful place made up of fascinating people with incredible stories. A life lived for justice requires a posture of openness to people different from ourselves and their experiences. It’s a choice to listen to the pain and suffering of others and to sit in that vulnerability. The world begins to change when we become more aware of one another, the injustices people go through, and decide to do something about it.

On Generosity:

Cruz with his new camera

A few weeks ago I was sitting at a coffee shop texting my buddy Cruz. I was telling him that I had maybe just seen someone carrying the exact camera and lens that he has been dreaming of for years. I asked him to remind me exactly what he’d wanted. He told me it was the Fujifilm XT5 with a 35mm prime lens. Little did he know I never saw anyone with a camera that day. Before those texts were sent, my childhood friend Sean reached out and asked what if we were to get Cruz his dream camera and give it to him a few weeks before the wedding. I told him we had to do it. We got his family, his fiancee and her family, and a few friends to all pitch in for it. That day at the coffee shop, Cruz had let me know exactly what camera we were going to buy him. A few weeks later, we surprised him. Here’s the link to his reaction.

A question for the day:

  • What are you giving too much of your attention to?

Resource of the Week:

If you don’t yet have a pickleball paddle, buy this set of two for yourself and a friend to go play for only $30. I guarantee you, this sport will bring you joy and life fulfillment.

P.S. This summer has been filled to the brim with weddings, bachelor parties, a leadership camp, and even a pickleball tournament (I took 2nd place). In mid-August, I’ll be resuming the weekly schedule of these newsletters. Thank you for your patience.
