Love, Justice, & Generosity

Let your soul catch back up with your body, pound the stone, and dying to a part of ourselves.

On Love:

Malibu, British Columbia

There are moments in life where you are confronted by something bigger than yourself. Where you feel small in the backdrop of the larger world. These moments tend to cause us to reflect and be present in ways our daily lives don’t leave space for. I had one of these moments a few weeks ago at a YoungLife Camp called Malibu in British Columbia. I spent the weekend volunteering as a server in the dining hall. In-between shifts, I would go stare into the vastness of the landscape in front of me. The mountains towering from above. The consistent splash of the waves on the shore. An occasional bark from a seal in the distance. These moments pull you out of the past and away from the future and they force you to be in the now. They push you to be here. Seek out moments like these, they allow your soul to catch up with your body.

On Justice:

“When nothing seems to help, I go and look at a stonecutter hammering away at his rock perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred and first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not that blow that did it, but all that had gone before.”

Jacob Riis

The key to living a life of justice is to keep pounding the stone. Do what you can with what you’ve been given to impact the lives of others. Either in small or big ways. One day, the stone will split in two.

On Generosity:

When we consciously give, we end up dying to a part of ourselves. The part only concerned with me and my needs. Generosity challenges us to be conscious of the needs around us. In exchange for being generous, we receive purpose. If our lives are only lived for ourselves, we’ll never be content. Be generous with your time, talent, and treasure and you’ll be the one to receive.

A question for the day:

  • Who in your life is deserving of a compliment today?

Resource of the Week:

  • ChatGPT

    • A powerful resource for day to day tasks, work stuff, and anything you can think of. It also generates great compliments for you to send. Although, the best ones are going to come from your heart.
