Love, Justice, & Generosity

Thoughts on your deathbed, awareness is our world, and generosity is a habit.

A thought on Love:

Picture yourself on your deathbed. You’re in a hospital, still conscious. You can think clearly but you know that you have little time left. Who is with you? What will matter to you as you get ready to leave this life on earth?

“I can tell you that the greatest regrets in life come from realizing you didn’t spend your time on the most important things.”

Bob Hasson - Shortcuts

I believe our highest calling is to love. To love one another as we love ourselves. To serve and sacrifice unconditionally for those around us: our families, our friends, our communities. This is where our deepest fulfillment and purpose come from. Imagine these people standing by you celebrating the life you lived and the impact you made. Before it's too late, how are you going to start or continue sowing those seeds of love?

    A thought on Justice:

The route to justice follows the steps of awareness, acceptance, then action. Our world is our awareness. In order to practice justice, we must take the first step to become aware of injustice. This involves taking various avenues of learning to make our actions in the future more effective. Think about an injustice or issue that you want to learn more about this week. Write a to-do for yourself to read more about it, watch a documentary, listen to a podcast, or any other way to become more aware of that issue. Next week, I’ll talk about the next step of acceptance.

    A thought on Generosity:

Generosity is not just a practice, but a habit. The more we do it, the more it becomes a part of our identity as a generous person. The more we believe that we are generous, the more we’ll practice generosity. In order to reinforce this identity, we must start consistently giving. Think about one way you can start to give consistently over the next few weeks. Start small.
