Love, Justice, & Generosity
The Swifts of Portland, the Israel-Palestine war, and why gratitude matters.
On Love:

Swirls. Claps. Gone. For 30 minutes I watched the Swifts, not to get confused with Taylor’s Swifties, fly in a tornado formation as they began their descent into their lair, an elementary school chimney. Thousands of these small birds came out of nowhere in no shape or pattern. As they began flying together, they formed a high speed funnel while flying in circles, completely in sync. Then hundreds at a time began entering the chimney. Within half an hour the last of the birds had entered the chimney and hundreds of people present to this wonder of the world broke into applause. I had witnessed a phenomenon reminding me how inexplicable this world truly is.
On Justice:
I believe every human has inherent worth. That worth cannot be compared, it cannot be taken away. It just is. Violence and war have a way of destroying that belief. Justifying killing. Justifying extreme retaliation. We lose humanity. The names of the people who are dying. Their stories. Their hopes. Their dreams. The Israel-Palestine war is messy and marred in a complex history. There are innocent people on both sides. There are guilty people on both sides. But who am I to judge? May we fight for peace in a way that recognizes the humanity in every human being. May we pray for a peace that transcends ethnic and religious differences. May we mourn those who were found at the wrong place at the wrong time.
On Generosity:
"Gratitude turns what we have into enough."
A question for the day:
What are you grateful for today?
Resource of the Week:
